HPI School of Design Thinking invites you to an open day

The labor market is undergoing rapid change: professional areas change, disappear completely or new ones appear. To survive this change and help shape the future in the long term, we need the right skills and abilities. Students from all over the world at the HPI School of Design Thinking, which opens its doors to those interested again on January 18, learn how the methods and work culture of Design Thinking help to master the challenges of the future.

On the open day, visitors get an insight into the working methods and the innovative learning spaces at HPI D-School and learn about the offers for students and companies. From From 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, students and the HPI D-School team will answer questions about the Design Thinking programs and applications in small Q&A sessions. Representatives of companies can find out how they can apply the innovation approach to the development of new products, services or business ideas as project partners of the HPI D-School. Since its founding in 2007, the HPI D-School in Potsdam has played a pioneering role in the academic education and dissemination of design thinking in Europe. The focus at HPI D-School is teaching, collaboration with project partners and research and further development of Design Thinking. The innovation approach relies on interdisciplinary teams and collaboration and enables faster development of human-centered products, services or business models.

At the HPI D-School, 90 students from various disciplines are currently working on challenges from project partners such as the Evangelisches Deaconissenhaus Berlin Teltow Lehnin, the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, the Potsdam Mittelmark district and Netcetera.

About HPI School of Design Thinking

The HPI School of Design Thinking (https://hpi.de/school-of-design-thinking.html) was founded by Hasso Plattner in Potsdam in 2007 based on the model of the Stanford d.school and has since become the European competence center for education developed in design thinking. The HPI D-school offers 300 places per year for an additional course in the innovation approach. In small, interdisciplinary teams, students from a wide range of disciplines develop innovative and human-centred solutions to complex practical problems. They are in close contact with project partners from companies, NGOs and political institutions. As the initiator of the Global Design Thinking Alliance (GDTA), HPI D-School promotes exchange between design thinking schools in Egypt, the USA and South Africa, among others.

Short profile of the Hasso Plattner Institute

The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam is Germany’s university center of excellence in digital engineering (https://hpi.de). With the bachelor’s degree “IT Systems Engineering”, the joint digital engineering faculty of HPI and the University of Potsdam offers a Germany-wide unique and particularly practical engineering computer science education, which is currently used by around 800 students. In the five master’s programs “IT Systems Engineering”, “Digital Health”, “Data Engineering”, “Cybersecurity” and “Software Systems Engineering”, you can set your own research priorities based on this. HPI always takes top positions in the CHE university rankings. The HPI School of Design Thinking, Europe’s first student innovation school based on the Stanford d.school model, offers 300 places for further study each year. There are currently 22 professors and over 50 other visiting professors, lecturers and lecturers working at HPI. It carries out excellent university research – in its IT departments, but also in the HPI Research School for PhD students with its research departments in Cape Town, Irvine, Haifa and Nanjing. HPI teaching and research focuses on the fundamentals and applications of large, highly complex and networked IT systems.
