Courtyard by Marriott has unveiled the new European design strategy at Courtyard by Marriott Berlin Mitte. In addition, the 267 rooms in the hotel have been completely renovated. The design must score with flexible work areas. According to the company, the design is “modern European” and features a mix of materials in natural tones with color accents.
Located in the former newspaper district near the Gendarmenmarkt, the hotel is the first hotel in Europe to unveil the new room design. The newly designed rooms include 236 deluxe rooms, 21 superior rooms, six studios and four studios with separate living and sleeping areas and kitchenettes.
The room design was specially tailored to the guests’ needs, with an emphasis on flexibility and an intelligent room structure. Light artificial stone blends into the color concept on sideboards and under the television. The new LED lighting concept with the Berlin illustrations in the mirrors will emphasize the atmosphere in the middle of the capital. The redesign of the cabinets and their placement created more room for movement in the room.
For example, a swivel desk, a side table and a hybrid chair, which can be used in combination with a stool for work and relaxation, offer new possibilities for working in the room. The renovated bathrooms have showers with sliding glass doors, large bathroom mirrors with built-in lights and heated towel rails. The modernization and construction of an additional fresh water line ensures sufficient water pressure and suitable water temperatures.
“We are very proud to be the first Courtyard hotel in Europe to implement the brand’s new design concept,” says Michael Heigl, General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott Berlin Mitte. “When renovating and selecting the products, we place great emphasis on sustainability in order to combine an environmentally friendly lifestyle with innovative technology and thus also meet the needs of travellers. Therefore, the guest was always the focus of every question that came up about the expansion and implementation.”
In connection with the remodel, internal softeners for hot and cold water were also installed to reduce limescale deposits, especially in the bathrooms, and thus use fewer chemicals. Water aerators are also used to reduce water consumption. LED spots also illuminate the guest rooms, and the air conditioning has been upgraded to be more energy efficient.
“Within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, our selected service brands are the driving force behind growth in Germany,” says Gitta Brückmann, Area Vice President Central Europe, Marriott International. “Courtyard by Marriott is the pioneer in this segment and we are proud that the new design concept is being implemented for the first time in Courtyard by Marriott Berlin Mitte. We look forward to impressing the guests in our capital with it.”
Courtyard by Marriott has a portfolio of more than 1,265 hotels in 60 countries worldwide. In the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), demand for selected service hotels is still very high. In Germany, there are currently 16 hotels of the Courtyard by Marriott brand in the portfolio, in Austria and Switzerland two each. Following the opening of the Courtyard hotels in Freiburg and Munich Garching in 2021, another Courtyard hotel is scheduled to open in Biel, Switzerland, in 2023.
