In New York today, OnePlus presented the new OxygenOS 13 alongside the new OnePlus 10T smartphone. The new OnePlus 10T is official – and as expected, it comes with OxygenOS. The device uses OxygenOS 12.1, which is based on Android 12. Anyone who has read our OnePlus 10 Pro review already knows the version of the overlay. At the event in New York, OnePlus also took the opportunity to give us a preview of OxygenOS 13, which will then be based on Android 13.
Later this year, we will first see OxygenOS 13 on the OnePlus 10 Pro and later on the OnePlus 10T. You can already find out what happened since the last version if you continue reading:
The new design of OxygenOS 13: what exactly is “aquamorph”?
According to OnePlus, version 13 of OxygenOS has taken it to a new evolutionary level. An important piece of the puzzle is the new design, which OnePlus describes as “aquamorphic fish”. “Aqua” alludes to the versatility and natural, soothing nature of water. “Morph” stands for the high-tech aspect and, according to OnePlus, is reflected in minimalist symbols, animations and textures.
As you can see from the icons in the image, OxygenOS 13 relies on soft and rounded edges. OnePlus wants to make every design element both useful and visually appealing. Widgets are accessed with a long press and the theme’s colors intelligently change with the time of day. Meaning for you: Tomorrow the design of OxygenOS 13 will be brighter, after sunset it will be darker and quieter.
OxygenOS 13: The new features
Functionally, OnePlus wants to guarantee us an even smoother experience. The following new or improved functions shall ensure this:
AI System Booster has been optimized and should ensure an even more stable and even performance. The memory management systems make it possible to stop multiple apps at the same time. The always-on display has also been improved. With OxygenOS 13, you have more AODs to choose from, which can now be customized even better to your needs.
According to OnePlus, the main innovations include improved usability with the Smart Launcher and Sidebar Toolbox functions, improved gaming thanks to HyperBoost, higher sound quality with Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos, Fast Pair and Audio Switch and sharing options with Nearby Share and App -Streaming.
For example, Smart Launcher gives you faster access to apps by allowing you to display larger folders on your home screen. Apps in these folders can then be tapped and opened without having to open the folder itself first.
Sidebar Toolbox is designed to make it easier for you to operate with one hand on the OnePlus smartphone. In addition, the HyperBoost Gaming Engine has been upgraded. As a result, the touch response rate is improved and frame rate fluctuations are less noticeable.
OxygenOS 13 also makes a leap in quality when it comes to sound. The OS supports spatial audio and Dolby Atmos is also supported. Thanks to Fast Pair, you can connect your device to supported devices in seconds, whether it’s a smart TV or headphones. If you want to switch from one device to another, this is also possible thanks to Audio Switch.
After all, Oxygen OS should not only be prettier and more functional, but also more secure. To that end, it gives you more control over what you share with which apps. OxygenOS 13 automatically warns about risky applications and downloads, and the location is protected even when dialing a public WLAN. Finally, Private Safe 2.0 secures your data – whether it’s documents or media files – in a virtual safe that other apps can’t access.
Later this year, we will find out how the interaction between OxygenOS 13 and Android 13 works in practice. OnePlus 10 Pro is set to receive OxygenOS 13 open beta soon. According to OnePlus, the brand new OnePlus 10T should also be available this year.
What do you say about the new version? This is a great chance to praise or criticize the upcoming interface before OnePlus fan Antoine does – he’s currently on vacation.
