3D printer maker EOS is partnering with software company Hyperganic to use algorithmic engineering to design space propulsion components.

Hyperganic aims to accelerate technical innovation with its Hyperganic Core software platform. The AI-powered software turns ideas into designs in minutes, with the engineer providing the rules and the computer generating the results. This algorithmic technique is now used in collaboration with EOS in the development of parts for aerospace.

Newly designed rocket engine

An example already exists: an Aerospike rocket engine. It was developed by Hyperganic and manufactured by EOS and AMCM, an EOS Group company. As EOS reports, an engine is traditionally considered a huge technical and manufacturing challenge.

Hyperganic built it from the ground up as an algorithm-based model. One of the hundred designs Hyperganic created in a few days was additively manufactured on an EOS M 400-4 system using laser beam melting. Specifically, the highly complex part was printed with the newly developed EOS NickelAlloy IN718 process and without any support structures.

The engine design was automatically adapted for production on a larger AMCM system for EOS CopperAlloy CuCrZr copper alloy.

In the next step, the design of the aerospike motor was automatically adapted for production on a much larger AMCM M 4K system from AMCM for the copper alloy EOS CopperAlloy CuCrZr. With this combination of design complexity and additive manufacturing, EOS intends to drive future innovations in space propulsion.

As an innovator, we are working with Hyperganic to introduce another paradigm shift in AM. This is especially true in the field of engineering and design and will expand both the solution possibilities and the performance of aerospace parts. At the same time, it will revolutionize the design process for AM and further digitize industrial 3D printing.
