fit4future: New version of the prevention program for children and young people

The nationwide, unique initiative from DAK-Gesundheit and the fit4future fund starts again at elementary schools and special schools as well as upper secondary schools. The program, which has been extensively developed in terms of content and methodology, imparts important skills to create a healthy environment for children, teachers and educational specialists in a sustainable and independent way.

School life can be stressful, especially in light of the recent pandemic period. Exercise, a balanced diet and mental health are all the more important. Several current studies from DAK-Gesundheit show that individual health problems have become significantly worse during the pandemic. For example, in the past two years there has been a marked increase in depression and eating disorders among girls and obesity among boys.

What we do today for body, mind and soul will pay off later.

This is precisely where fit4future comes in and offers a comprehensive program with the nationwide, unique prevention initiative for primary schools and special schools (fit4future Kids) as well as all types of high school (fit4future Teens) to strengthen the healthcare system for children and young people in the long term. Participants get all the necessary skills and suggestions to create a healthy environment for both children and educational staff in a sustainable and independent way. Since the start of fit4future in 2016, more than 1.2 million children and young people have participated in over 3,100 day care centers and schools.

Healthy living environment school – focus areas from physical activity to mental health

After the 2022 summer holidays, a new edition of the program will start, which has been further developed in terms of content and methodology. The goal: A step-by-step and needs-oriented support to create a healthy living environment for children, young people and adults. fit4future supports children and young people in mastering their lives in an active, healthy and mentally strong way. Now and also in the future.

The focus is on the areas of exercise, balanced nutrition, mental health and mental fitness as well as addiction prevention. fit4future is available in stand-alone programs for children aged 6 to 12 and youth and young adults aged 10 to 19. As young people in particular have a wide range of topics on their agenda, the content and offers of fit4future Teens are tailored to suit two age groups: 10-15 year olds and 15-19 year olds up to school exams. Because it is the only way to ensure that health promotion hits the nerve, inspires people to actively participate and can be implemented successfully and fun.

Work materials, video and audio offers, workshops and seminars
The new edition of the initiative offers a wide range of analogue and digital materials, including action cards, fit4future boxes of play and sports equipment, timetables and video and audio formats tailored to the target audience. The digital offers can be accessed and used by the participating institutions on a protected health platform. In seminars and workshops, fit4future also conveys specialist knowledge and practice-oriented skills to establish health promotion in everyday school life. Other events serve to network and actively experience the content. Coaching in small groups enables individual solution strategies for health issues.

When does it start?

The first participants can benefit from the fit4future program for a total of four years from the start of the 2022/23 school year. In 2023 and 2024, more schools will be admitted after the summer holidays, which will then be able to participate in fit4future for three to two years. If all places are taken, interested parties can be put on a waiting list.

Here you can go directly to the registration depending on the institution:

fit4future children (for 6 to 12-year-olds at primary schools and special schools)

fit4future teenagers (for 10 to 15-year-olds and 15-year-olds up to secondary school exams)

In short: Anyone participating in fit4future…

… learns the necessary skills for an independent continuation and further development of health promotion at school.
… has created a teaching and learning environment at its facility.
… know that it is worth looking after your health now and in the future – and how to do it with pleasure.
