AUTO Road Traffic decides the family car of the year: electric models win 10 out of 18 prizes

Stuttgart, Germany (ots) – A family car must offer plenty of space and a large boot of at least 400 litres. But which models not only meet these criteria, but also impress in terms of design, technology and value for money? That was the question posed by AUTO Road Traffic magazine in the big reader poll for “Family Car of the Year”, where 10,941 participants voted for their favourites. In addition to the overall ranking, the winners among the imported vehicles were also named. You will find a clear list of the winners at the end of the text.

A total of 123 model ranges in three price categories were available for readers’ choice. “Since the models are sorted by their base price, the most diverse body styles and drive types compete for readers’ votes in the three price ranges,” says AUTO editor-in-chief Stefan Cerchez. “For us as editors, the election is therefore an important indicator of which types, technologies and trends our readers are interested in and agree with.” All results will be published in the 20/2022 edition of AUTO Verkehr, which can be obtained from dealers and via shop.motorpresse.de (also as e-paper) from today.

In price group A (up to 25,000 euros), the Opel Astra Sports Tourer won two awards this year: In the design category, it was the clear leader and was able to collect almost 23 percent of the votes, and the model was also in the Technology category with a good 19 percent agreement among the participants. Second place is the Skoda Octavia Combi. Even in the design import rating, the Skoda lags behind the winner of this category, the Kia Ceed Sportswagon – albeit very narrowly. In the technology import category, however, the competitors switch places, and here the Skoda wins. Pure value for money, however, in this price group, both have to line up behind two Dacia models, Duster and Jogger, which occupy first and second place both in the overall and in the import rankings. In both assessments, the Dacias received around 40 percent of the vote – a remarkable popularity for the models from the Romanian manufacturer, which belongs to Renault.

In price group B (25,000 to 35,000 euros), which more than 50 percent of participants say they are most interested in, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric model won four out of six competitions and is in both the design and technology categories in the overall as well as in the import rankings . When it comes to value for money, there is only one winner in both assessments: the Skoda Enyaq iV, also an electric car.

In price group C (35,000 to 45,000 euros) in the design category, the BMW Dreier Touring won the overall position and the Volvo V60 the import position. However, the champion in this price group is the Kia EV6 e-model, which wins both assessments in the technology category and in the price-performance ratio – and several times with a clear gap to second place. “The results reflect that openness to electric cars has increased significantly in the last two years,” says Stefan Cerchez. “For many of our readers, they now represent a real alternative to cars with internal combustion engines.”
