The models in the weight classes 18 to 25 t have already received the “iF Design Award”. For Hamm, it is the 38th design award in 25 years.
“iF Design Award” is one of the world’s most important design awards, Hamm explains. In the 2021 competition, the jury judged nearly 10,000 entries from 52 countries. The 18 to 25 ton compactors from Hamm’s new HC series received an award in the car / vehicle category.
A well-designed construction machine is characterized by the fact that operators can easily understand all functions and operate the machine intuitively. At the same time, the safety, efficiency and comfort of the machine benefit from the design. “We bring ergonomics, functionality and aesthetics in harmony and give our rollers a ‘Hamm THEN’ from the cradle. In addition to pure performance, ergonomics and simple operation are right at the top of the agenda for us,” says Dr. Axel Römer, Head of Research and Development at Hamm.
Straightforward, clearly structured and extremely dynamic, the HC series reinterprets the style elements of the Hamm brand. The new shape of the bonnet is particularly striking. With the HC series, Hamm pursues a platform strategy: customers benefit from a wide range of options and can adapt each roller to their own requirements and applications, the company assures. This also includes very different configuration levels for the driver’s seat, from the open platform to the heated and air-conditioned cabin. Therefore, the compactors can be used in all climate zones.
Another feature of the HC series is its function. Everything on the “Easy Drive” workstation is language-neutral, clear and intuitively easy to use. The interior is greatly enlarged compared to the previous models. As a result, there is plenty of freedom of movement in the cab. The comfort seat offers a new turning and sliding concept, the steering column and the driver’s seat are finely adjustable. In addition, Hamm has significantly reduced the vibrations and noise level in the cabin through material selection and design. A comfortable heating and air conditioning system ensures that the windows are not misted and contributes to the excellent view. Shelves, ventilation and lighting round out the comfort of a well-thought-out construction machine.
The award-winning compactors are motorized with 160 kW and achieve a very good overall performance thanks to new approaches in Hammtronic’s machine control system, the manufacturer promises. The integrated ECO mode supports operation in the economical part load area and reduces the need for cooling.
The design also supports the overall performance of the HC series, including the redesigned front end: The large distance between the drum and the traverse means that stops to clean the drums are a thing of the past, while increasing productivity. In addition, Hamm also takes into account the conservation of resources and recycling at the end of use in the design and selection of materials. With modern hardware and interfaces, the HC series compactors are “digitally ready” and thus prepared for the applications, quality and communication requirements of future construction sites. Among other things, Hamm uses his own “Smart Doc” app in the HC series. It displays all the essential compression parameters and compression progress on a mobile device and logs the data.
The visualization also shows inexperienced operators immediately where adequate compression has taken place and where compression is still needed. In addition, the compactors can also communicate with digital applications from other providers via a standardized interface.
