More than 500,000 of the colorful building blocks were processed.

60 large models can be seen in the 400 square meter exhibition area. Kids can marvel at Hamburg’s landmark, Michel, or the Statue of Liberty in New York. In this way, visitors to the exhibition repeatedly meet historical personalities such as Julius Caesar.

Lower Saxony: Versatile “summer fun” from July 14 to August 28 in Wolfsburg

There is also a lot going on in Autostadt Wolfsburg over the summer: From 14 July to 28 August, children and young people and their families are invited to take part in the “summer fun”. The focus is on creative activities and educational offerings on the topics of mobility, digitalisation and sustainability. Children and young people can, for example, make their own model cars in the workplaces in Mobiversum, make seed balls or try digital textile design.

There are free and taxable offers, such as an action rally through the city, which can be booked daily. In this type of scavenger hunt for smartphones, participants immerse themselves in a fun story. According to the creators, what is required first and foremost is mindset, humor and creativity: It’s about helping a couple in 1969 reach a festival on time.

Lower Saxony: terrain rally and herbal tour of the Varusschlacht Museum

The Varusschlacht Kalkriese museum traditionally offers a varied program for families in the summer. Every first and third Sunday of the month at 2pm there are family trips through the current one Special exhibition “Pompeii – splendor and death under the volcano”, which can be seen until 6 November. An off-road rally and a guided tour with Laetitia are also well-established elements of the family’s summer program. She takes the guests to the museum park and can tell all sorts of stories from the time of the Varus Battle.

An herbal tour, which is on the program every fourth Saturday, is relatively new. Behind is a walk through the museum’s park, where participants go hunting for ground ivy, Giersch and Co. For these are herbs that the Germans already knew and knew how to use. According to the announcement, visitors will learn something about recognizing, identifying and using the herbs. Finally, an “herbal snack” is served, which shows what you can do with “weeds” from the garden. The highlight for all future archaeologists is definitely the practical program of the excavation camp, which takes place during the summer months.

Schleswig-Holstein: Museum of West Coast Art in Alkersum with digital offerings

The West Coast Art Museum provides plenty on its website Participation program that can also be used by children who do not happen to be on holiday at Föhr this summer. On the website, there is, among other things, an audio game that tells the story of the two school children Enno and Nele. The two were forgotten during a class trip to the West Coast Art Museum and spend an exciting night in the middle of the many paintings and photographs. There are also regular online workshops and hands-on activities.

Various workshops for children and young people are also offered locally throughout the summer. In the series “Art detectives on the go”, for example, the participants take a closer look at Max Liebermann’s works. The purpose of the workshop is to solve exciting puzzles in the exhibition and to design your own treasure map in the art workshop at the end. There are also exciting offers for families who want to spend time together in the museum: In the workshop “I see something you do not see”, children blindfold their parents and describe to them what they see in a picture. Then they have to track the image based on the descriptions before switching. Registration is required for workshops.

Get creative yourself in Kunsthalle Bremen

Kunsthalle Bremen is also creative: On the children’s Sunday, you can, for example, go on a discovery tour through the exhibition – afterwards you can create your own works of art in the studio. There are also two summer holiday courses that each last a week and take place in the morning. Here, too, children can be inspired by strolling through the art gallery and then experimenting with acrylic, watercolor, ink, pencil, oil pastel and various mixed media.
