The platform “wohnen bei uns” (wbu) will continue to be involved in the partnership with Internationaler Bund (IB), which has existed since 2011. On behalf of wbu, the management handed over Rüdiger Kliebes from VLW United Leipziger Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG and Béla Hambuch, board member of WOGETRA Wohnungsgenossenschaft Transport eG a donation of 6,000 euros to those responsible for IB in the Leipzig room in the city library.
The five Leipzig housing associations BGL, Lipsia, UNITAS, VLW and WOGETRA support numerous offers for children and young people. “Especially in times of great uncertainty and unpredictability, it is important for us to strengthen a stability anchor,” said Rüdiger Kliebes when the check was handed over.
The cooperatives value the offers as essential aspects of quality of life and social welfare in the city. The material support for the IB projects forms part of the cooperatives’ active responsibility.
Vicki Felthaus, youth mayor and patron of the project, is pleased: “It is very valuable when companies commit financially to children and young people and support projects that start directly with the individual child. I would like to thank the Leipzig Housing Association for the donation. I wish the selected projects many good experiences with the children, their work has great added value for our society. ”
The donation is used to support various IB projects, such as the Leipzig Child Sponsorship Program. Since 2010, these have offered a special opportunity to individually support children in difficult life situations. At least 60 voluntary sponsorships are currently supported each year.
The volunteer sponsors regularly meet their sponsor child for at least one year. You give time and attention and can thus promote development. The volunteers plan sporting and creative activities, excursions or help with learning. It is a voluntary and free offer. Participants are accompanied during the sponsorship with educational content and joint activities.
It includes joint excursions, action afternoons, sponsorship meetings, workshops as well as teaching and leisure activities. In total, more than 260 sponsorships have been realized so far. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the demand for one-on-one support has risen sharply, as is also seen by the number of more than 70 volunteers a year.
Furthermore, the platform supports wbu offers in the open child and youth work and in the school social work in IB. In the open leisure clubs (OFT) Tante Hedwig, 50 ° Nordost and Engelsdorf, the program “Healthy and conscious nutrition” is continuously implemented with the money. This includes weekly nutritional offerings such as cooking, baking and urban gardening together. With the awareness of conscious shopping, the subject is playfully integrated into the consciousness of the participants.
During the year, numerous creative, experience and leisure activities can be carried out for special needs, high school students and primary school students. The donations enable the organization of dispute resolution workshops, offers of social learning, experience offers with CityKids and introductory days for the German-as-other-language classes.
In addition, projects on participation and social space orientation in the districts are supported. In OFT Engelsdorf, a mirror wall will be installed in the sports room for ordinary hip-hop dance workshops. In OFT 50 ° Northeast, the focus is on Flinta * Space: This is a girls’ room that visitors can design and decorate according to their own needs.
The support also includes ongoing work with girls and boys in the OFTs and school social work (eg self-defense courses for girls or the girls ‘summer camp and the boys’ autumn camp). The donation thus reaches more than 250 extra children and young people each year.
With more than 14,000 employees, the International Bund (IB) is one of the largest service providers in youth, social and educational work in Germany. His guiding principle is to “strengthen humanity”.
IB Mitte gGmbH for education and social services (IB Mitte gGmbH) is a non-profit subsidiary of the registered association and employs more than 2,300 people in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
Child sponsorships Leipzig is a program of IB Mitte gGmbH and was founded in 2010.
