Ares Design Land Rover Defender V8

Ares Design from Italy launches a new small series of Land Rover Defender with V8. The body is made exclusively of carbon fiber material.

In fact, Ares Design from Modena in Italy sees itself as a classic “coach-builder” – a company that reinterprets existing serial cars with its own body design, some of which are spectacular. Wami Lalique Spyder or Ares Project Panther are two examples of this. With the Land Rover Defender, however, the Italians are taking a different approach. Because a redesign of the off-road vehicle icon probably would not be appropriate, it is, after all, primarily the classic Defender form that fans of the brand still love.

Ares therefore approached the Land Rover Defender project differently. With this new little series, it remains (almost) with the model’s original design. However, the Ares body will be replaced with a new, faithfully cast carbon fiber body. Like the original, the outer hinges on the doors and the bonnet have no visible screw connections. Ares also enlarges the rear window and mounts a large panoramic window in the roof.

V8 instead of four-cylinder turbodiesel

Ares Land Rover Defender is built on top of the existing Land Rover Defeder 110 Station Wagon, so it’s actually a “Resto-Mod”, not a new car. Of course, there is little left of the original donor vehicle apart from the axle bodies and frame. Ares Design has replaced the well-known four-cylinder turbodiesel with V8 engines in various configurations from the British Landy tuning specialists JE Engineering. In the base version, the original 4.0 and 4.6 liter V8 from the Range Rover is bored out there to a displacement of 4,748 cc.

Must like: Red leather in abundance, topped with carbon fiber and black checkered plate.

The Tuning V8 is intentionally not supercharged to emphasize the powerful character of the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder with high torque at low speeds. It is 440 Newton meters, the engine power is 282 hp. If you want even more power, you can go for the V8 with a displacement of 5.3 liters, which then provides 355 hp and 519 Nm of torque. The V8 units are connected to a six-speed automatic. If a customer wants a top-up, it is also possible. Then 4.2 liters meets a compressor. In interplay, the eight-cylinder then provides 475 hp.

In all cases, both shafts are upgraded with differential lock, the shaft shafts are replaced with reinforced copies. The original braking system makes room for a sports brake with larger discs and six-piston calipers.

The exhaust system with sports catalytic converters and bypass valve ends in front of the rear wheels on both sides, so there is enough entertainment even without the upgraded multimedia system. On the chassis side, the Ares relies on coil springs 35 millimeters higher than the series and electronically controlled dampers. Ares Land Rover Defender Spec. 1.2 stands on 18-inch wheels mounted with 305 / 70-18 Cooper Discoverer.

When it comes to the decor, Ares is willing to negotiate, here the customer ultimately decides the execution. Ares Defender shown here relies on red leather, aluminum and carbon, and you do not have to do without the checkered plate look that is so popular among Defender fans.

Ares estimates that it will take about four months from the order to build a new Land Rover Defender V8. The price is 235,000 euros plus taxes, but only for the conversion work. The right donor vehicle, ideally delivered by the customer himself, comes on top.

Yes, design and functionality fit together.

No, too big, too playful, too much SUV.
