And the next model gets the EMUI 12 update. This time it’s Mate RS Porsche Design’s turn. It is very gratifying that older flagships and Lite models now also receive the EMUI 12 update. Due to the embargo, the foundation is still Android 10, which has pros and cons. The downside, of course, is that there is no new Android version. On the other hand, Huawei is now openly capable of delivering significantly more devices with EMUI 12 updates than was the case with previous EMUI updates. In any case, it’s a small consolation that there are almost no new Huawei smartphones to buy due to banned 5G technology and the lack of Google services.
Unfortunately, the update size cannot be seen on the screen, but the EMUI 12 update size varied between on other devices 1.96 GB and 4.57 GB. In any case, it is not a small amount of data, if you do not have a very generous amount of data or prefer to use your data elsewhere, I would advise you to use a WLAN for download.
Additionally, before starting the EMUI 12 update, you should calm down your impatience and anticipation for a moment and MUST make a backup, at least from your main apps. You can find the function in Settings under System → Backup & Restore. After major updates, there is always one or the other problem and you may need to reinstall an app or even reset your smartphone to factory settings. If you do not have a backup, you often get in big trouble.
In addition to the changes from EMUI 12, the firmware also includes the April 2022 security patch.
This integrates security patches released in April 2022 for enhanced system security. For more information on the security of HUAWEI EMUI system updates, please visit HUAWEI’s official website: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/bulletin/2022/4/
