Moscow / Kiev – The Russian military has claimed complete control of the strategically important small town of Lyman in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.

“Due to the joint efforts of units of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Russian Armed Forces, the city of Krasny Liman was completely liberated from Ukrainian nationalists,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday. Krasny Liman is the name of Lyman, which dates back to Soviet times.

The separatists allied with Moscow had already announced the conquest yesterday. Today, the Ukrainian General Staff also indirectly admitted the fall of the small town. Lyman is strategically important as a railway hub and road link to the metropolitan areas of Sieverodonetsk – Lysychansk in the east and Sloviansk – Kramatorsk in the southwest.

Konashenkov also reported heavy air and missile attacks on the towns of Bakhmut and Soledar in the Donetsk region. Among other things, command posts and ammunition depots were hit. The Russian army spokesman put the Ukrainian losses to 260 soldiers alone through the air force.

Zelensky calls the situation in Donbass very difficult

Zelensky described the situation in Donbass as very difficult in light of the Russian attacks. Moscow uses maximum artillery and reserves there, Zelensky said in a video speech. The Ukrainian army defends the country with all available resources. “We are doing everything we can to strengthen the army,” the president assured. As for the current hotly contested locations in the Donbass, Zelensky was combative. “If the occupying forces think Lyman and Sieverodonetsk will be theirs, they will be wrong. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is breaking away from Moscow

Due to the Russian war of aggression, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Moscow Patriarchate declared its “complete autonomy and independence” from Moscow. Kirill, the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, is strongly behind Russian President Vladimir Putin. Most recently, the pressure in the Church of Ukraine to break out of Moscow had increased.
