Time display newly interpreted: symbiosis of people – time – design

Battenberg Innovations stands for ingenuity, design, professional integration and education, together with the will to jointly develop and implement innovative projects. With the unique time display design object NX.2, Nixie pipes are brought to new life, and tradition and modernity are combined in unexpected ways.

Battenberg Innovations belongs to the foundation of the same name, which stands for professional integration and education. The foundation is bilingual and based in Biel. Ideas are developed and implemented in innovative projects under the Battenberg Innovations brand. With the aim of creating something special like NX.2, an unusual way was created to display time as an art object that is unparalleled in terms of exclusivity, innovation and design. The NX.2 time display, limited to 10 parts, fits any interior design style. Tradition and modernity combine and fascinate with the unusual way of displaying time digitally. The connecting elements of the exclusive object are the symbiosis between human – time – design.

Under the leadership of Stefan Kuonen, who is responsible for the watch and industry sector at the Battenberg Foundation, the Nixie pipes were brought out of the forest and reinterpreted in the unique art object NX.2.

A Nixie tube is an electronic component for displaying characters based on the incandescent lamp principle. In the 1960s and 1970s, they were mainly used as numerical displays in measuring machines and electronic calculators. For the implementation of the ambitious project, Kuonen was supported by the renowned Swiss designer Björn Ischi and the Czech programmer Dalibor Farny, who breathed new life into the Nixie pipes. To achieve the desired time display format in the NX.2 design object without changing the classic arrangement, four out of six Nixie tubes were redesigned to be installed upside down. As with an incandescent lamp, the characters and numbers used are electrically charged, causing the ambient inert gas to glow. Battenberg Innovations breaks new ground with time display using Nixie tubes. The use and assembly of the Nixie pipes has been redefined. This format is reserved exclusively for the NX.2 Time Display Design Object.

Stefan Kuonen says: “I was fascinated by the idea of presenting the forgotten Nixie pipes in an unexpected way. We are all proud that we have completed this ambitious project together with people with special needs. The benefits of NX. 2 flows to promoting new projects and opening doors for further projects “.
