The design company KHALIL has launched the 1st international competition “Design Competition – New Material”. We were looking for young, visionary art students at international universities and their most innovative material concepts for car interiors. The challenge placed complex tasks on the design. It must fulfill functional and emotional aspects at the same time, surprise, inspire and stand out through its added value.
From a dozen nominated students, the jury selected four winners from a wide range of study levels and disciplines, such as architecture, textile design, fashion, art, transportation design and young professionals:
Pforzheim University won in the category “Most Innovative University”.
“We are delighted with the lively participation and congratulate the excellent students from the bottom of our hearts!”, Congratulated CEO Claudia Khalil. Unusual solutions and approaches that can be the key to success for the trend materials of the future come from art colleges and academies in particular. The work convinced with innovative strength, individuality and creativity. In terms of content, the challenge also focused on any kind of new material surfaces or materials that needed to be completely reinterpreted. The most important megatrends of the future in design were taken into account: sustainability, biomimicry – solutions from nature and smart material design – materials with completely new functions.
“Our design competition is a unique opportunity for young artists and represents a milestone in the careers of young students!”, Said Claudia Khalil. In addition to high-quality non-cash prizes, KHALIL DESIGN also offers winners the great opportunity to present their works to some of the most well-known and largest brands in the automotive industry in a newly created “Material Hall” in the heart of the company in Herrenberg. The award ceremony is also expected to take place in Herrenberg in May 2022, a highlight of “Design Week”, which is planned for the first time for the network of partner companies, architects and designers.
