North Korea reports first corona outbreak
North Korea has officially confirmed the first corona outbreak since the pandemic began more than two years ago and ordered a nationwide lockdown. A sub-variant of the highly contagious omicron variant has been discovered in the city of Pyongyang, reports the state news agency KCNA. Details of the number of cases or the origin of the infection were not revealed.
Family ministers from the federal and state governments advise on children and young people
The Federal Ministers for Families and the Minister for Families, Lisa Paus (The Greens), start today with a joint two-day conference in Berlin. According to the Senate’s Department of Education and Family in Berlin, a focus on the consultations is the life situation of children and young people in times of crisis. Berlin’s family senator Astrid-Sabine Busse is currently chairing the Youth and Family Conference (JFMK), which is meeting for the first time since 2019 at a hotel in Berlin. Due to Corona, this was not possible in the meantime.
Many children and young people are burdened by the effects of the corona pandemic, concerns about the climate crisis and the war in Ukraine, Busse said. Here she, together with her colleagues, wants to provide help and support. Another topic is the future of the Gute-Kita-Gesetz, which came into force in early 2019 and whose funding is limited until 2022. The results of the deliberations are to be presented at a press conference on Friday.
International Virtual Summit on the Corona Pandemic
Germany, the United States and other countries meet today for another virtual summit on the corona pandemic. Topics include the worldwide vaccination effort in the fight against the corona virus and the preparation for impending future pandemics. A number of heads of state and government will attend, such as US President Joe Biden and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), as well as representatives from international and non-governmental organizations. The United States first organized such an international corona summit last September. Germany, which currently holds the G7 presidency, and Indonesia, which currently holds the G20 presidency, are now involved in organizing the second summit.
Lower Saxony: 11,516 new infections
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 11,516 new infections in Lower Saxony in the morning (previous day: 13,896). The seven-day incidence, ie the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week, is now 697.5 – after 708.1 the day before.
RKI: Nationwide prevalence is currently 502.4
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the nationwide seven-day incidence Thursday morning at 502.4. The day before, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week 507.1 (last week: 566.8 last month: 1087.2). However, the occurrence does not give a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have for some time assumed that there will be a large number of cases that are not registered by RKI – due to overworked health authorities, and because not all infected people get a PCR test done. Only these count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual fair values. The health authorities of Germany recently reported 88,961 new corona infections (previous day, 97,010, last week: 96,167) and 197 deaths (last week: 183) to RKI within one day.
Hamburg: The seven-day incidence and number of cases is rising again
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has registered 2,409 new corona infections in Hamburg (previous day: 1,212). The seven-day incidence is currently 457.1 after 443.0 the day before. Nine more coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.
Because Hamburg’s social authority stopped publishing corona data on a daily basis in early May, NDR now publishes the current figures from RKI in the corona ticker every day. The Hanseatic City Health Authority only provides an update on the seven-day incidence and hospital utilization once a week – on Tuesdays. These data and values may differ from RKI’s.
Schleswig-Holstein: 3,775 new infections reported
The Corona frequency in Schleswig-Holstein has dropped to 724.6. It appears from information from the population register. One week earlier, the number of new infections recorded per 100,000 population was 842.4 within seven days. Due to, among other things, the declining number of tests, it must be assumed that not all corona cases will be officially registered. The number of registered new infections was 3,775 after 4,834 a week ago. There were 343 Covid patients in the hospitals (last week: 392). Of these, 30 were treated in an intensive care unit and 15 were ventilated. In connection with the corona virus, there were another six deaths within a day. The number of new corona sufferers admitted to hospitals per 100,000 people within a week – the frequency of hospitalizations – is 4.60 (last week: 3.99).
