“Our common goal was to develop an advanced display with a sophisticated design and superior technology. In 2020, Porsche Design and AGON by AOC collaborated to create the PD27, a 240Hz QHD gaming monitor with a tripod-like stand in a Porsche race car. “With the second generation of the gaming monitor, we have taken motorsport-inspired design even further. For example, it integrates design loans from the steering wheel and spokes of a sports car,” says Roland Heiler, Chief Design Officer at Porsche Design.

Form follows function – newly interpreted and inspired by sports cars

The shape of the PD32M stand is determined by its function. Stability and robustness are key elements in the gaming industry and can be found in the house and the sandblasted cast aluminum base. Compactness also plays an excellent role in monitors. The design of the display case therefore corresponds to the functional layout of its internal components.

The result is soft surfaces that taper backwards from the panel to the interior work. Separate visual depressions intuitively lead to the different connections. To visually further emphasize the sleek overall impression of the panel, taper the rear showcase on the sides with a slight incline. This creates a trapezoidal shape where inserts made of metal mesh for cooling and the speakers are placed. Thanks to the indirect RGB backlight, the gaming experience is discreetly enhanced and an accompanying dynamic is created. Small but fine details such as a horizontal cooling strip, also backlit, inspired by the race car’s air cooling, round off the overall picture.

The product branding has also been approached innovatively: it is presented live through a replaceable projection logo. The large 31.5 “screen rests securely and firmly on the desk, is height-adjustable for ergonomic placement and also supports pivot adjustment for vertical adjustment.

The screen not only stands out from its competitors in the market on the outside. The Porsche Design AOC AGON PRO PD32M is equipped with a flat IPS panel (AAS) that reproduces 1.07 billion colors and makes even the finest shades visible. With its 97 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, it provides the highest precision for true-to-life colors and shades. Thanks to the integration of state-of-the-art MiniLED backlight technology, the monitor has 1,152 dimming zones that are controlled individually depending on the image content. The PD32M is capable of displaying both bright sunlight and very intense black shadows in the same image, giving it the highest HDR certification DisplayHDR 1400. With up to 1,400 nits maximum brightness, it literally outshines the usual 300 nits of other modern gaming screens.

The IPS panel runs at a high refresh rate of 144 Hz in sharp 4K resolution (3840 x 2160). With a true GtG response time of 1ms, so-called “ghosting” between frames is largely eliminated. Thanks to Adaptive-Sync, the model is able to implement variable refresh rates (VRR), which prevent artifacts such as tearing and chopping. And with DisplayPort 1.4 and two available HDMI 2.1 ports, players can use both their PC and console. The monitor also supports devices up to 120 Hz at 4K via USB-C as well as current generation consoles via HDMI 2.1.

Double need for creative doers

Of course, the Porsche Design AOC AGON PRO PD32M is not only there to play, but also allows work at the highest level. It’s the perfect home office display for content creators, designers, editors or programmers. With its USB-C input, video signal, data and power (up to 90 W – depending on the HDR setting) can be transferred simultaneously to a connected notebook via a single USB-C cable. In addition, notebooks can access all peripherals connected to the monitor’s 4-port USB 3.2 hub, such as keyboards, mice, or external drives. Last but not least, the PD32M has a KVM switch so users can easily switch between two sources, such as a gaming PC and a workbook, while using the same keyboard and mouse. The screen can even display both sources simultaneously in its frame-by-frame mode (maximum UHD at 60Hz) via its DP, HDMI or USB-C ports.
