Schubert Motorsport celebrates 50 years of BMW M: a special design adorns the BMW M4 GT3 at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring

Last weekend, Schubert Motorsport made its debut in the legendary DTM. At the end of the month comes the next big highlight of the 2022 season for the team from Oschersleben. From the 26th to the 29th of May, the 50th edition of the prestigious ADAC TOTAL 24h race at the Nürburgring will take place on the Nordschleife. BMW M4 GT3 from BMW M Motorsport Team Schubert Motorsport presents itself on the occasion of the long-distance classic in a very special design. The car, driven by BMW factory drivers Jesse Krohn, Jens Klingmann, Alexander Sims and their teammate Niklas Krütten, will celebrate the BMW M’s 50th birthday in the Eifel.

Already next weekend, Schubert Motorsport will use the special design for the first time at the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The prologue to the 24-hour race takes place from May 6 to 8 in a new intense format. The drivers and crew of the BMW M4 GT3 with start number 20 have a total of nine sessions available over three days. Instead of the traditional race over six hours, this time two races over three hours each are planned on the 25,378 km long 24-hour version of the Nürburgring.

The race weekend begins on Friday with two 120-minute qualifying sessions, followed by a top 30 qualifying session. In this, the starting grid for the first race is determined by individual time runs over two laps. A 45-minute warm-up and the first of the two races will be held on Saturday. Sunday guarantees another exciting session with another top qualifying session after the warm-up session. The individual time trial of two laps, this time for all participants, will determine the route for race two in the afternoon.

For Schubert Motorsport, this schedule means a lot of track time to prepare for the toughest endurance race in the world and to get to know the new GT3 car from BMW M Motorsport in the green hell better. So far, the team has only been in action with the BMW M4 GT3 at the start of the 2022 Nürburgring Endurance Series. Participation in the second run of the NLS was prevented by a sudden onset of winter. The team cars were not available for the third event due to races in the ADAC GT Masters and preparations for the DTM season opener.

However, the qualification weekend is not only for set-up work. For Krohn, Klingmann, Sims and Krütten, with more than 30 GT3 cars registered in the SP9 and SPX classes, it also represents an important final placement provision for the 24-hour race in three weeks. At the start of the NLS, Schubert Motorsport finished in fifth place in qualifying and races created a solid foundation for the upcoming challenges of the endurance classic.

Team leader Marcel Schmidt: “We are honored to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BMW M with this special design at such an amazing race. BMW’s great successes in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring are part of German motorsport history and certainly another incentive for us to reach our big goal this year with the BMW M4 GT3. We had a top race with the BMW M6 GT3 last year, but it was not quite enough for the podium. We would definitely like to do that again this year. The qualifying weekend is very important to position us for this challenge. We are excited about the new format and what we can learn as we prepare for the 24-hour race. ”
