New design, new geometry and new kinematics – eMTB-News.de

Husqvarna introduces a new e-mountain bike for the first time in several years. With the mountain cross, in short MC designates, the manufacturer, which is also known for its motorcycles, lawn mowers and chainsaws, has an all-mountain-class e-bike with 150 mm suspension, Shimano EP8 engine, 720 Wh battery and a separate carbon frame in its range. Under the umbrella of Pierer E-Bike GmbH, a modern e-mountain bike was created here, with various technical refinements and a beautiful design. We have the first information about Husqvarna MC!

The electric bikes from Husqvarna, a brand from Sweden, have been developed under the umbrella of Pierer E-Bikes GmbH. After a few years, a brand new e-mountain bike sees the light of day. Everything on the new Husqvarna Mountain Cross MC has been redesigned, so to speak. The carbon frame has its own design and has integrated cooling, similar to what Haibike showed on the Flyon in 2018 – there is a test here, which aims to effectively prevent the engine from overheating. In addition, the same bearings, shafts and screw connections are now installed throughout the OneFit rear triangle, all of which are compatible with each other.

Even before the acquisition of Husqvarna E-Bikes, Pierer E-Bikes recognized the brand’s potential to pave the way for e-mobility. The new Mountain Cross 6 is a testament to that vision. It is a major breakthrough and a major turning point for the brand, we are excited to see what the future brings.

Hubert Trunkenpolz, CEO of Pierer E-Bikes GmbH

What else is new about the completely styled Husqvarna Mountain Cross MC? As with Specialized Levo, for example, the battery is pulled down from the frame and has a newly developed zipper. To make the center of gravity more central in the e-bike and space for disassembly sliding battery To create this, the engine was turned upwards and installed freestanding – which counteracts overheating and avoids unnecessary energy losses.

Another detail is the wheel size. While the frame sizes M, L and XL roll on mixed wheel sizes, Husqvarna uses 27.5 “front and rear for the smallest frame size S.

geometry

Husqvarna offers Mountain Cross in four frame sizes. A special feature here: the smallest frame size S uses 27.5-inch wheels at the front and rear, while the other frame sizes come as mullets. The geometry, like the carbon frame itself, has been completely redesigned and puts the biker in the foreground. According to the manufacturer, the handling has been greatly optimized and you now sit more centrally and lower on the electric bike. The main angle measures moderate 65.5 ° and the seat angle is around 77 °. Range and stack values speak for a modern and comfortable geometry.

The heat is quickly dissipated through openings in the main tube behind the front mask and ventilation grilles on the SkidPlate, regardless of whether it comes from the battery or is caused by passive heating (eg direct sunlight). This protects the heat-sensitive lithium-ion cells and prolongs their life.

engine and battery

With the brand new Husqvarna MC, the manufacturer is dependent on an engine system from Shimano, just like the previous model. Shimano EP8 is used here, which works lively and powerfully if it is driven with the right cadence. To avoid energy loss due to overheating, the engine was installed in a rather airy way. Virtually free-standing, the small unit gets a lot of cooling air and can provide permanent support. The battery used is a model with a capacity of 720 Wh, which is called Core S3. It is removed downwards from the downpipe. To be able to do this quickly and easily, a new zipper has been developed here.

  • battery capacity 720Wh
  • performance 250 watts
  • Max. torque 85 Nm
  • the screen Shimano SM-EC800
